Trials designed to evaluate the most appropriate procedures for leaching hy
per-saline clays covered by a salt crust within the Tina Plain, Sinai, Egyp
t are described. These involved either continuous or intermittent pending o
f water on the surface, commencing with brackish water, later followed by s
imulated irrigation water. The results confirm that the soil salinity can b
e dramatically reduced, but for greatest effect requires the removal of the
surface salt crust at the outset.
