Abstract
A novel gain control scheme for erbium-doped fiber amplifiers is presented. By modulating the pump laser at a tone frequency and using its modulated c omponent as a gain probing signal, one can easily realized the gain control . This scheme Is quite cost-effective because it needs minimum optical comp onents for gain control of optical amplifiers.
