Abstract
The activity coefficients of K-3[Co(CN)(6)], Mg-3[Co(CN)(6)](2), and Ca-3[C o(CN)(6)](2), are examined. The results highlight close similarity with the corresponding hexacyanoferrate (III) salts. On dilution, K-3[Co(CN)(6)], l ike K-3[Fe(CN)(6)], approaches the limiting law from the upper side, while Mg-3[Co(CN)(6)](2) and Ca-3[Co(CN)(6)](2) tend to the limiting law from the opposite side, like Mg-3[Fe(CN)(6)](2), Ca-3[Fe(CN)(6)](2), Sr-3[Fe(CN)(6) ](2), and Ba-3[Fe(CN)(6)](2). Both kinds of behavior agree with theory for a model of hard spheres bearing electric charges +1 and -3 or +2 and -3, re spectively. The parameter values of the Pitzer equation for activity and os motic coefficients are reported.
