Selected examples of different acid-catalysed reaction types are given to p
rovide a unified approach to the activity of zeolites either to form produc
ts of interest which diffuse into the gas or liquid phase (heterogeneous ca
talysis) or to generate encapsulated organic material immobilised inside th
e zeolite cages with interesting photochemical, optical and electronic prop
erties (material science). The central point of these highlights is to demo
nstrate that the knowledge gained in catalysis by zeolites can be applied t
o develop novel materials.
