Abstract
An explicit method is presented for the analysis of guided waves in a line defect channel in a two-dimensional photonic crystal. It can predict, e.g. the minimal channel width for allowing a wave to propagate in the channel a t a frequency in the stopband of the photonic crystal. The theoretical pred iction is validated by numerical simulation using a finite-difference time- domain method. (C) 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
