Abstract
Z-scan technique is applied to a saturable medium described by a generalize d three-level scheme of photoexcitation in the condition of overlapping spe ctra of the ground and excited states. Correctness of the Z-scan data inter pretation is analyzed in the framework of the model. The approach is applie d for measuring the refractive indices Delta n(0) and n(2) in polymer films containing bacteriorhodopsin. (C) 2000 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
