J. Kiehn et al., RESISTIVITY CHANGES DUE TO PRECIPITATION EFFECTS IN FIBER-REINFORCED MG AL-ZN-MN ALLOY, Physica status solidi. a, Applied research, 161(1), 1997, pp. 85-95
The change of electrical properties of alumina short fibre reinforced
Mg-Al-Zn-Mn alloy AZ91D during isochronal annealing up to 300 degrees
C is discussed. The Saffil(R) fibres were incorporated into the magnes
ium alloy by direct squeeze casting. The fibre distribution is random
planar parallel to the flat faces of the de four-point resistivity spe
cimens machined from the solution treated castings. A sharp drop of re
sistivity between 140 and 260 degrees C is explained by the formation
of incoherent beta-phase particles. Some practical recommendations con
cerning the use of alumina short fibre reinforced AZ91 alloy are made
on the basis of the results obtained.
