We have studied the electronic structure of LiV2O4 by photoemission spectro
scopy and first-principles band-structure calculation. The spectra of LiV2O
4 show clear temperature dependence between 30 and 60 K in the vicinity of
the Fermi level (E-F), which may indicate he quasi-particle density of stai
rs increases below the "Kondo temperature" of similar to 30 K. The calculat
ed band structure shows that the conduction electrons originate solely from
the t(2g) complex of V 3d bands, which suggests that the mechanism for the
mass enhancement in this system is different from that in the 4f heavy-fer
mion systems. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
