Metamagnetic transition of FeSi

A field-induced metamagnetic transition for FeSi is discussed by performing the fixed-spin-moment calculation on a self-consistent linear muffin-tin o rbital method. The critical field of the metamagnetic transition is found t o depend strongly on the lattice constant. It is pointed out that the volum e magnetostriction associated with the metamagnetic transition plays an imp ortant role in the critical field. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All right s reserved.
