Abstract
Polycrystalline Dy-rich (U1-xDyx)Ni2B2C solid solutions (x = 0.97, 0.95, 0. 90) were prepared, adopting LuNi2B2C-type structure. AC-susceptibility and magnetization studies show that Dy substitution by U (decreasing x) affects the superconducting (SC) and antiferromagnetic (AF) transitions of DyNi2B2 C [initial magnetic order at 16.3(3) K, AF at 10.4(3) K, SC at congruent to 6 K], lowering the magnetic transition temperatures, with AF order disappe aring for x < 0.90. There is no clear evidence for a SC state in the materi als down to the lower-temperature limit of 2 K. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B .V. All rights reserved.
