Abstract
This paper reports progress in the development of assembly-oriented compute r aided design (CAD) software, focusing particularly on those elements whic h employ rule-based and other expert system technology to assist with desig n for assembly (DFA) analysis. The areas addressed within the CAD environme nt include proactive design for assembly, assistance with assembly sequence definition and improvement in design efficiency by reduction of the part c ount.
