Abstract
It is shown that during the observation of a wave in a waveguide from a com oving reference system travelling at a velocity equal to the group velocity of the wave, the wave propagation is halted and the electromagnetic energy contained in the waveguide proves to be stationary. The nonzero rest mass of the photons in the waveguide is equivalent to this rest energy and is id entical with the rest mass measured in dynamic experiments.
