Abstract
Application of parametric (non-dosimetric) release mechanisms to radiation sterilization does not share the same level of interest found in the areas of EtO and heat-based technologies. This situation exists due in part to th e availability and precision of radiation dosimetry technologies, coupled w ith the precision and reliability inherent in well-designed radioisotope an d electron beam facilities. In this pager we review the general terms, conc epts and philosophies that apply to the practice of parameter-based declara tion of absorbed dose to product and explore what, if any, tangible/intangi ble benefits are available through pursuit of such a practice.
