Heterogeneous interstitial nucleation was observed as a result of the expos
ure to high dose rate and repeated irradiations of single crystals of LIF d
oped with Mg and Ti. A comparison under the same conditions with the irradi
ation of commercial LiF dosimeters was done. The temperature region for whi
ch the observations were made applies to the region where V-K centers are m
obile. Therefore, the recombination of some defects produced by gamma radia
tion are primarily actual for the behavior around room temperature. Glow cu
rves were obtained from irradiated LiF. The main disadvantages found are al
most the same as those presented for commercial LiF. Also, in both cases we
found differences in the thermoluminiscence response after storage was obs
erved. The study was also focused to answering the question of how many tim
es a dosimeter can be re-used after a severe irradiation. (C) 2000 Elsevier
