Abstract
California's Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program (CPSP) is a multidisc iplinary prenatal care program for Medicaid eligible women. In an earlier s tudy, we found that women who receive adequate psychosocial services, as de fined by professionally developed guidelines, were two times less likely to have a preterm birth or low weight baby than were women who received inade quate services. To better understand how women receiving care from certifie d CPSP providers perceive and value psychosocial services, we conducted fiv e focus groups. The information from this qualitative study is intended to improve psychosocial services for low-income women and to guide further res earch on the effectiveness of psychosocial services in the improvement of p erinatal outcomes.
