Synthesis and crystal structures of mixed halophenylbismuthates(III)

Synthesis and characterisation of mixed halophenylbismuthates(III) with a g eneral formula Bu4N[PhBiX2Y] where X = Cl or Br; Y = Cl, Br or I; X not equ al Y are reported. The molecular structures of Bu4N[PhBiCl2Br] (1) and Bu4N -[PhBiBr2I] (2) are determined by X-ray crystallography. In mixed halopheny lbismuthates? the anion exists as a dimer with bismuth in a distorted squar e pyramidal coordination. In the dimer the two phenyl groups occupy anti po sition to each other thereby minimising the repulsion.
