Abstract
Colourless, isometric crystals of Ba-2[Tl(OH)(6)]OH grew during several wee ks at room temperature through the reaction of Tl2O3 . xH(2)O in a concentr ated NaOH solution in the presence of barium hydroxide. Ba-2[Tl(OH)(6)]OH ( monoclinic. C2/c, a = 1186.3(2) pm, b = 646.01(8) pm, c = 1057.0(2) pm, bet a = 95.63(2)degrees) crystallizes in a distorted stuffed K2PtCl6 type of st ructure that is closely related to of M-2[Zn(OH)(6)], M = Sr, Ba, Ba-2[Mn(O H)(6)] Ba-2[Cu(OH)(6)], respectively.
