Abstract
The absolute solar oxygen abundance, log epsilon(.) = 8.80 +/- 0.06, has be en determined from various oxygen abundance indicators in different solar a tlases, and a new method is proposed to test collision rate coefficients fo r the NLTE model of O I. Using effective temperatures derived from Balmer l ines, oxygen abundances from O I 7773 triplets in 83 solar-type stars withi n the solar neighborhood spanning a metallicity range of [Fe/H] = -2.3...0.4 have been determined. NLTE effects are not negligible, especially in wa rm stars (T-eff > 5800) with [Fe/H] > -0.5.
