This review is a brief outline of the chronology and essence of early event
s in bioinformatics, covering the period from 1869 (discovery of DNA by Mie
scher) to 1980-1981 (beginning of massive sequencing). For the purpose of t
his review, bioinformatics is understood as a chapter of molecular biology
dealing with the amino acid and nucleotide sequences and with the informati
