F. Khanom et al., Superoxide-scavenging and prolyl endopeptidase inhibitory activities of Bangladeshi indigenous medicinal plants, BIOS BIOT B, 64(4), 2000, pp. 837-840
The superoxide-scavenging and prolyl endopeptidase (PEP) inhibitory activit
ies of 15 different kinds of Bangladeshi medicinal plants were evaluated. M
ethanol extraction was performed for the screening tests. Swertia chirata,
Emblica officinalis, Zingiber offiinale and Myristica malabarica were scree
ned as superoxide-scavenging samples. Similarly, E. officinalis was identif
ied as one of the strongest PEP inhibitory samples. The 50% O-2(-)-scavengi
ng and PEP-inhibitory concentrations from E. officinalis methanol extracts
were found to be 13.17 and 26.10 mu g/ml, respectively.
