Abstract
Based on Hellinger-Reissner functional and with the inclusion both of displ acements and stresses, a hybrid stress formulation of dynamic finite elemen t method is derived in this paper. In this formulation, the displacements a re separated into zeroth displacement modes and high-order incompatible dyn amic displacement modes which are related to the dynamic characteristics. T he rationality, feasibility and effectiveness of the present method are als o numerically justified. Copyright (C) 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
