Abstract
Experimental results are presented which show that in a fibre link with pol arisation mode dispersion (PMD) the polarisation shift keying (PolSK) trans mission format suffers from an excess sensitivity penalty due to signal dep olarisation when compared with the intensity modulated format. The excess p enalty is 3dB when the PMD is 30% of the bit period.
