A dichroic glass polarizer having good optical and thermal properties is fa
bricated with a thickness of 15-35 mu m. This polarizer has a contrast rati
o greater than 40 dB with 30 mu m thickness at 1.54 mu m wavelength. Insert
ion loss was measured to be less than 0.06 dB. No difference in contrast ra
tio was confirmed against incident angle shift from normal to 7 degrees. La
rge aperture size as large as 10 x 10 mm square and good thermal durability
were realized. This polarizer is considered to be useful for lens-free and
tilted configurations of optical devices.
