The aim of this study is to measure the impact of Infectious diseases
on the level of mortality in France. Data is based on national statist
ics on causes of death (underlying cause but also direct and associate
d causes fur each death). In 1994, 59,000 deaths were related to an in
fections disease (35,000 as underlying cause). The study concludes on
a large surmortality for males, the progression in death rate over 10
pears (especially among males and aged population) and wide geographic
al discrepancies.
