Abstract
Neutron diffraction and high-pressure elastic constant measurements are rep orted on a Cr+2.2 at. % Al crystal. This is a critical Al concentration, pl acing the crystal at a concentration very close to the triple point on the magnetic phase diagram. Anomalously strong volume-dependent magnetoelastic coupling effects are observed in the crystal at temperatures well into the paramagnetic phase. (C) 2000 American Institute of Physics.
