The magnetic properties of submicron circular epitaxial Co dot arrays fabri
cated by electron beam lithography have been studied as a function of thick
ness using high resolution magnetic force microscopy. As a function of thic
kness, in-plane single domain, vortex, or perpendicular multidomain phases
have been identified. The evolution of the domain structures with dot thick
