H. Zhou et al., Micromagnetic analysis of anisotropy orientation in high density longitudinal magnetic recording, J APPL PHYS, 87(9), 2000, pp. 5675-5677
Micromagnetic simulations have been performed to compare the recording perf
ormance of oriented media (M-r = 1.50) with planar isotropic media in longi
tudinal recording. With no exchange, oriented medium exhibits substantially
less dc noise power thus larger signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). But with incr
easing linear density, the oriented medium shows larger nonlinear amplitude
reduction, larger nonlinear transition shift, and less SNR advantage. At f
inite exchange, there is no substantial SNR difference between oriented and
isotropic medium. (C) 2000 American Institute of Physics. [S0021-8979(00)8
