Zygodon canoideus var. nov lingulatus, a distinctive new variety of moss from Southern England

Zygodon conoideus var. lingulatus S.Edwards var. nov. is described from a b roadleaf woodland in Surrey, U.K. Despite a superficial similiarity to the only previously known Zygodon with rounded leaf apices, Zygodon obtusifoliu s Hook., morphological and biochemical characteristics show it to be more c losely related to the acute-leaved Zygodon conoideus (Dicks.) Hook. & Tayl. , from which it is indistinguishable except for the leaf apex, and it is th erefore described as a variety of this taxon.
