Holes were burned in the 0,0 triplet-triplet fluorescence excitation line o
f 2,2-dinaphthylcarbene in n-hexane at 1.7 K. The pattern of holes was expl
ained by taking into account the zero-field splitting of both triplet state
s involved in the transition and some assumptions made about the excitation
energy relaxation channels. Under external magnetic field the spectrum of
holes changed, confirming the triplet character of the ground and lowest ex
cited states. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
