Abstract
The synthesis of two carbazole derivatives is described by a method in whic h one and three carbazole moieties are covalently attached to a hexa-alkoxy triphenylene core, respectively. The first of these materials displays hexa gonal columnar liquid crystalline behaviour when doped with tinitrofluoreno ne, at room temperature, as confirmed by the mesophase textures viewed by o ptical polarizing microscopy and the results from differential scanning cal orimetry. These materials may have potential applications in the area of ph otorefractive materials.
