C. Burguiere et al., Amphiphilic block copolymers prepared via controlled radical polymerization as surfactants for emulsion polymerization, MACRO SYMP, 150, 2000, pp. 39-44
Amphiphilic block copolymers were synthesized by controlled radical polymer
ization using either atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) or a nitro
xide-mediated technique. Those copolymers have a hydrophobic block which is
composed of polystyrene and a polyelectrolyte hydrophilic block which is e
ither anionic (poly(acrylic acid)) or cationic (poly(vinylbenzyltriethyl am
monium chloride)). They proved to be efficient stabilizers in the free-radi
cal emulsion polymerization of styrene.
