Abstract
The degree of halophily in Rhodococcus erythropolis and Halobacterium salin arum was found to increase under microaerobic conditions. This was evidentl y due to the fact that the two stress factors thigh salt and low oxygen con centrations) acted in an antagonistic manner. The results obtained suggest that the aeration rate should be taken into account while estimating the de gree of halophily of a microorganism.
