The primary structure of the edited part of the MURF4 (ATPase6) gene was co
mpared for seven species of flagellate Leishmania. The length of this regio
n in all cases was identical and the sequences proved to be highly homologo
us. The observed differences appear to correspond to the taxonomic position
of the species, which belong to three subgenera, Sauroleishmania, Leishman
ia, and Viannia.
