Cr. Spehar et al., BRS Carla - Alternative mid cycle cultivar to the grain production systemsof the Brazilian Savannah, PESQ AGROP, 35(3), 2000, pp. 661-664
Modem soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) production in the Brazilian Savann
ahs is the result of crop adaptation to the low latitudes of the tropics. G
rain yield in this region is higher than in the traditional, high latitude
zones of cultivation. Late maturity, however, predominates among the recomm
ended cultivars; this implies limited opportunity for suitable production s
ystem planning. The 'BRS Carla' cultivar is an alternative to supply the gr
owers' demand. Besides belonging to same maturity group of 'BR-40' (Itiquir
a), its high yielding and its plant height are adequate to combined harvest
, and it is resistant to the main diseases, especially to the stem canker (
Diaporthe phaseolorum f.sp. meridionalis).
