Ya. Uspenskii et Bn. Harmon, Large selective magneto-optic response from magnetic semiconducting layered structures, PHYS REV B, 61(16), 2000, pp. 10571-10574
Magneto-optic (MO) spectra are considered for layered structures consisting
of a magnetic semiconductor and a metal and having a resonant state. It is
found that scattering on the resonant state results in a large MO response
when the difference in resonant frequencies for left and right circular wa
ves is large enough. The response is very selective for light waves of a ce
rtain helicity, and selection is reversed with magnetization reversal. Nume
rical calculations carried out for the Ag/EuS/Ag structure as well as analy
tical estimations show that a large selective MO response should be attaina
ble experimentally.
