Poly (acryloyl benzoic hydrazide) and its complexes with some transition me
tals were prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV-vis spec
tra and magnetic measurements. The results showed that the homopolymer reac
ted with Fe(III) chloride and Zn(II) acetate in 1:1 and with Co(II), Ni(II)
and Cu(II) chlorides in 1:2 (metal: ligand) molar ratio. Thermal analysis
measurements showed that the thermal stabilities of the polymer complexes a
re higher than the homopolymer which is attributed to the formation of stab
le 5-membered chelate ring. Electrical measurements indicated that the homo
polymer and its corresponding metal complexes are within the insulator rang
