Abstract
The thermal stability of isotactic polypropylene stabilized with selenium a nd selenium/triazine couples has been investigated by chemiluminescence in air at 180 degrees C. The main kinetic parameters (t(i), t(1/2), t(max), V- ox(max) and I-max) were determined for three selenium concentrations (0.15, 0.25 and 0.50 wt%). The cooperative factors for selenium and some efficien t triazines in oxidation of i-PP were obtained for different triazine/Se ra tios (from 0.3 up to 3.3). A stabilization mechanism based on the modificat ion in selenium chemical state is proposed. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
