M. Hillebrand et al., Experimental and theoretical study of the fluorescence emission propertiesof 4-acetyldiphenylsulfide, REV RO CHIM, 44(6), 1999, pp. 569-576
The experimental study of the fluorescence spectrum of 4-acetyldiphenylsuif
ide reveals a dual fluorescence due to the presence of the normal singlet a
nd a twisted conformation implying a charge transfer. AM1 calculations on t
he ground and excited state potential energy surfaces support this assignme
nt by predicting the existence of a polar twisted stale which can be stabil
ised by solvation to reach an energy only 2 kcal/mol higher than the normal
singlet state and consequently could be implied in the emission properties
.
