A sequence of para-tert-butylphenol (p-TBF) formaldehyde (F) novolac resins
were synthesized altering the molar ratios of p-TBF and F involved in the
condensation reaction. H2SO4 was used as catalyst. The molecular weight of
the synthesized resins varied in the range of 440-1220. The resins were cha
racterized by IR and H-1-RMN spectroscopy techniques. The thermal propertie
s such as softening temperatures and degradation profile were also investig
ated.
