The paper reports a simple method for the synthesis of a polycarbosilazane
possessing both C-C and Si-N-Si linkages in its backbone by using the hydro
silylation reaction of two disilazanes with Si-H and Si-Vinyl terminal grou
ps, respectively. The obtained polymer was characterised by IR, GPC, TGA, e
lemental analysis and solubility behaviour. The route also stands for a ver
satile approach to novel organosilicon polymers possessing various substitu
ents on silicon and nitrogen atoms and with various lengths of the hydrocar
bonate bridges. The ultimate aim is to obtain precursors for C-Si-N ceramic
s with better thermal stability than of those obtained from polycarbosilane
precursors (SiC-based ceramic fibers).
