The EPR data show that, when oxidized aluminophosphate molecular sieves Co(
III)APO are brought in contact with water and methanol, frame cobalt underg
oes reduction to the divalent state. Adsorption of pentane on the oxidized
sample caused the appearance of the EPR signals of octahydronaphthalene rad
ical cations characteristic of decationized mordenite. A mechanism of the f
ormation of active intermediate species and their further transformations i
n conversion of methanol to hydrocarbons was suggested.
