Abstract
The refractive indices of some binary mobile phases for normal and reverse phase high-performance liquid chromatography were examined as functions of the volume fraction of the modifier. These dependences were described by pa rabolic functions containing the refractive indices of the constituent comp onents and only one empirical parameter. Deviations of the refractive indic es of the mobile phases from the additivity rule were discussed.
