Abstract
0.5 wt.% of each catalyst (Co, Ni) used to synthesize single shell nanotube s are found to remain in purified samples even after prolonged treatments i n boiling concentrated HNO3. Chemical analysis, Co-59 NMR experiments and H RTEM observations suggest an even distribution of small clusters or isolate d atoms of these transition elements between or within the nanotubes, (C) 2 000 Elsevier Science Ltd.
