This paper is a partial and selective review of the development of biologic
al microcalorimetry with particular emphasis on kinetic aspects. The review
describes, in outline, the concerns expressed for the determination of kin
etic parameters in previous publications (mostly drawn from the author's ow
n interests) and concludes with a new kinetic analysis of the output from f
