Computational analysis of transient hypersonic how effects on high-speed or
reentry space vehicles with panel substructures demonstrates the complexit
y of the aerothermoelastic behavior. Under certain transitory Row condition
s (depending on the rate of change in dynamic pressures and thermal loads),
the dynamic response rapidly changes its pattern when crossing the stable/
unstable domains of the stability map. An interesting investigation of the
dynamics of chaos of a deterministic system is offered. Apparently, the dyn
amic pattern should be related to the classical map of the aeroelastic stab
ility boundaries, but the numerical solutions do not always confirm this as
sumption. The sensitivity of the nonlinear aerothermoelastic model to initi
al conditions that is characteristic of chaotic systems could explain this
complex behavior.
