Studies were undertaken to compare a computer programme (Neway) and gr
aphical method (fitting a curve by eye) for calculation of degradation
characteristics and effective degradability of crude protein, organic
matter and dry matter in 7 forage crops. There was no significant dif
ference in the effective degradability values and degradation characte
ristics except for b values (insoluble but potentially degradable frac
tion) of dry matter and organic matter.
