Xc. Zeng et al., THE EFFECT OF SURFACTANT MICELLES ON THE ALKALINE-HYDROLYSIS OF DIMETHYLFORMAMIDE, Journal of dispersion science and technology, 18(4), 1997, pp. 369-378
The alkaline hydrolysis of dimethylformamide has been studied at 40 de
grees C in micellar solutions of single surfactant (CTAB, SDS, Brij 35
) with the analog thermoanalytical curve method of thermokinetics. A k
inetic equation of micellar catalysis under the condition of higher re
actant concentration than micellar concentration ([S]>[M]) has been de
rived from the pseudophase model of micellar catalysis and some relati
ve assumptions. The kinetic parameters, k(m), k(2m) and the associatio
n constant of reactant with micelle K-1, have been calculated in this
way, the results indicate that these surfactant micelles exhibit catal
ytic effect on the reaction. This is attributed to the micropolarity a
nd local concentration effect of micelles.
