Abstract
Auditory event-related potentials recorded Lit birth to speech and nonspeec h syllables from six scalp electrodes discriminated between newborn infants who 8 years later would be characterized as dyslexic, poor, or normal read ers. These findings indicate that reading problems can be identified and po ssible interventions undertaken up to 9 years earlier than is currently pos sible. (C) 2000 Academic Press.
