A. Jensen et T. Blaha, RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MANAGEMENT AND HYGIE NE FACTORS IN PIG HERDS ANDSLAUGHTER CHECK RESULTS, Praktische Tierarzt, 78(6), 1997, pp. 494
Integrated quality control systems for the pork production lead to the
necessity of controlling the health status in pig herds in order to i
mprove food safety. The recording of pathological findings in pigs at
slaughter is a useful tool to evaluate the health status of the pig he
rds of origin, which provides important information to the slaughterho
use, the farmer and the consulting veterinarian. The paper presents re
sults of slaughter checks of pigs at an abattoir in Schleswig-Holstein
, Germany, which consider pathological-anatomical lesions and hygiene
factors in the pig herds of origin. Only 25,8 % of the examined pigs s
howed no pathological lesions.
