This research attempted to (1) identify water Quality and water treatm
ent parameters that can potentially influence the creation of biodegra
dable organic matter (BOM) and aldehydes and (2) derive correlations o
f BOM (estimated by measuring assimilable organic carbon [AOC] and bio
degradable dissolved organic carbon [BDOC]) and aldehydes, with ozone
dosage and water quality variables, through multiple regression analys
is. Aldehyde formation was influenced by ozone dosage, alkalinity, non
humic fraction of DOG, chlorophyll a, and DOG. Ozonated water BDOC lev
el was a function of raw water BDOC concentration and ozone dosage, wh
ereas AOC concentration in ozonated water was related to raw water AOC
level, alkalinity, and ozone dosage. Multiple regression analysis sho
wed good correlations of AOC, BDOC, and aldehydes with the variables l
isted.
